❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For normal working days in UAE, overtime is calculated at 1.25 times the regular hourly rate. The formula is: OT Payment = (Salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8) × 1.25 × Total OT Hours. For example, if your monthly salary is AED 3,000 and you work 10 overtime hours on a normal day, OT Pay = (3000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8) × 1.25 × 10 = AED 156.25.
In UAE, overtime worked on weekends is paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. The formula is: OT Payment = (Salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8) × 1.5 × Total OT Hours. This is mandated under the UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021).
Overtime worked on public holidays in the UAE is calculated at 2.5 times the regular hourly rate. The formula is: OT Payment = (Salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8) × 2.5 × Total OT Hours. This is the highest overtime multiplier under UAE Labour Law.
UAE Labour Law does not strictly specify whether overtime should be calculated on basic salary or gross salary, but most companies use basic salary as the base for overtime calculations. However, some employers use gross salary. This overtime calculator for UAE supports both options so you can calculate based on your company's policy.
The one-hour overtime rate is calculated as: One Hour OT Rate = Salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8. This formula assumes 30 days in a month and 8 working hours per day, which is the standard used by most businesses in the UAE. The result is then multiplied by the applicable overtime multiplier (1.25, 1.5, or 2.5) and the number of overtime hours.
Yes. Under UAE Labour Law, an employee shall not work overtime for more than 2 hours per day, unless the work is necessary to prevent substantial loss or a serious accident. In no case shall total working hours (including overtime) exceed 12 hours in a day.
